Summer Research Internship 2025 - Emergency Medicine
The IES-RI Summer Research Internship in Emergency Medicine offers pre-medical and medical students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical research within the dynamic field of emergency medicine. Interns will work alongside experienced researchers and clinicians to contribute to active research projects that explore a range of topics such as acute care delivery, public health, homelessness, wilderness medicine, and healthcare systems innovation.
This hybrid internship includes both virtual meetings and structured in-person activities at the JPS Emergency Department. Interns will participate in educational workshops, mentorship sessions, clinical observations, and research activities that support the development of academic, analytical, and professional skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in weekly virtual didactic sessions and skill-building workshops
- Assist in clinical research activities including literature reviews, data collection, and data entry
- Attend in-person shadowing experiences and research activities at JPS ED
- Prepare abstracts, posters, and/or manuscripts for presentation or publication
- Engage with faculty mentors and research teams on project-related tasks
- Attend regular team check-ins and contribute to program discussions
- Currently enrolled as a high-school student, pre-medical undergraduate, or medical student
- Strong interest in Emergency Medicine, Public Health, or Healthcare Research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently and in a team
- Available to participate in both remote an din-person program components
- Prior Research or clinical experience
- Familiarity with tools such as Excel, Qualtrics, REDCap, or statistical software
- Background or coursework in public health, biology, or data analysis
